Green Cats

Nineteen green cats are needed for my cat quilt.  I sewed up 11 cats last week, WHO-HOO!

I only finished up 3 this week. It was daunting knowing that I would have to sew a minimum of 4 per week. It is a relief to know that I only have 5 left to go!

Multi Cats

April is multicolored over at http://superscrappy.blogspot.com/.

My color palette calls for only three multicolored cats.

Whew!  That was easy.  I did make an extra red one (which could be counted as multi) to replace one of the red ones that I did not like last month.

Red Cats

My red stash is more like a small pile of mostly intact fat quarters.  WELL, this is great because I do not need many red cats for my pattern!

You may think that I got off easy this month, NOPE!  I was finishing up the blue cats from February.
Someone got off pattern on one of these...

Only three red cats are needed.

February: Blue Cats

Angela at Superscrappy.blogspot.com is hosting a rainbow themed quilt-along.  In 2017 each month will be assigned a color and it is the participants job to sew/quilt a project with the color theme.  You are allowed to make adjustments to this rule as you need to.  This month's color is turquoise and based on my fabric stash I decided to make February my blue month.  I will be following the Catvent pattern from http://www.ohfransson.com/. I have 10 blue cats so far.  It was so much fun creating them.

Wild Finish

I finished the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2016.  Seven of the nine rows have some resemblance or same pattern as the suggested block layout.  This quilt is called Wild.

Sushi Quilt(s)

I saw this sushi quilt pattern at Hunter's Design Studio and knew I would have fun with this project.

This color block quilt rolls up to mimic the color combination of a sushi roll.  Per the awesome directions with the pattern, I used the pillow method on this one.

It looks just like Sushi!

You can see that I attempted to add some quilting texture.
The recipient of this quilt called me to let me know that my quilting of the 'salmon' was the best representation of meat in fabric ever!  (I am sure it is not.)

I made two quilts with this pattern and call the second one "Bonus Sushi."

This one has Enchanted Forest Rice.

Sushi quilt was a quilting exercise for me while Bonus Sushi was a color placement exercise for me.

RSC 16 Brown

The RSC 16 February color is/was brown!  Brown with pink accents!  I finished the row for what I am calling the RSC 16 quilt.  I will not be posting pictures of ALL the rows. This quilt may possibly be a gift for someone and should be kept a surprise...

I did work with some brown in another scrappy project.  This project is meant to loosely look like sky, earth, water, and the bowels of the earth.  It is still a work in progress.

RSC 16 Blue

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2016 has begun.  A great quilt block was chosen for January: twinkle star.  I cannot wait to see what everybody else in the RSC 16 has been sewing.

RSC 15 Flimsy

The RSC 15 flimsy is finished.
I chose a flower print for the bottom border. (It is almost a 40 inch border.) It will hang off the edge of the bed nicely.

The quilt measures 93.5 inches by 118 inches.
The quilt back will not be prepared for quite sometime.
I would like a scrappy quilt back.  My scraps are too small and I am not up to the challenge of sewing them all together for such a huge undertaking.

RSC 15 Red, Indigo

I have been doing other projects around the RSC15 and have not been posting my blocks.  July's color was red and August Indigo.  (My blocks are more purple than indigo.)

A huge thanks goes to Angela for coordinating the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  Each month she picks a color for the month and posts directions for six inch blocks on her blog.  This year she is setting the blocks into saw tooth stars along with chain patterned blocks.  It takes A LOT of time to post step- by- step instructions for sewing projects.  THANK YOU ANGELA!

R x R I feel like a Winner!

The Row by Row 2015 quilt is finished!  I am glad with how it turned out.

Here are the finished rows:

Speckled Hen Quilts Aurora, OR
Craft Warehouse Vancouver, WA
Cool Cottons Portland, OR
Mill End Store Milwaukie, OR
Fabric Depot Portland, OR
Tea Time Calicos Tigard, OR
Every Thread Counts Hood River, OR
Quilting Delights Happy Valley, OR

Long arm Quilting & Binding: Jolene Knight

The quilt was dropped off at Cool Cottons this morning.  I got lucky in that one of few local stores without a winner was one of my rows.. I got the bonus gift certificate prize too!

In total I hopped 14 shops!  I even took a day trip to the coast for some rows.  Creating this quilt was quite a learning experience.  I did applique for the first time.  Many of my remaining rows are applique, I am not as hesitant to tackle them anymore.  The one technique I did avoid learning on this quilt was paper piecing, I'll leave that for another time. The most important improvement: my quarter inch seam!

To the Nines

Yes, I have been absent from this blog for more than a few months.  I have slowly, here and there been sewing a queen sized quilt for a June birthday gift.  I used the "To the Nines" pattern from the book Fat Quarters Anonymous.

It took me a long time to make a final decision on the color/ pattern selection.  I asked the quilt recipient to pick out a Kona solid that she liked... she surprised me with a shade of purple on the list! I went out and bought purple asap.  Then I went out and bought more purple to match!

This is the fifth and largest quilt for me.

I wanted this quilt to have a nice finished look to it.  Jolene from Good Knight Quilts finished the quilt's binding and did the Longarm work.  I think it looks fab! Thanks Jolene!
